Our slumber ended when Anna crawled into our bed–scared of the rumbling thunder that was beginning to rock our camper. I went to sleep in Anna’s bed and the rest of the night I spent checking GPS as the thunder woke me. I finally was kind of up by 5:30 am–pools of water were visible outside my window. I used this time to book the remainder of our sites, marking the end of our summer trip. My adventure well is filled.
It rained most of the morning but Keith rallied and got everything outside ready in the wet while I got the girls and everything ready on the inside. Team work is the dream work. By the time we left Keith needed a change of clothing but we were on our way to Alabama.
We took all kinds of back roads on the way to Ozark and even traveled through Troy, Alabama where I interviewed (for those who remember). I think Troy looks about the same size as the town I live in now. Our drive had rain, lots of trees, a smelly gas station, and a Armchair Expert podcast highlighting an entomologist and her research on wasps.
The Ozark/Fort Rucker KOA was easily accessible and had amenities and lots of rules. I think that the owners have had to deal with quite a few problem people in their days as they had a very specific set of rules. Being near Fort Rucker, there were quite a few military guests as well as army helicopters flying over every so often. We visited the pool and playground, ordered Chinese food (a risk, I admit but what Elsa requested). It was O-K. After dinner we did a campground walk and almost went down into the fall out shelter they had but were deterred by the huge spiders in the staircase underground. Thankfully that night did not have any storms, but Anna still ended up in our bed.
