We packed up the inside of the trailer here in Wheat Ridge, CO as much as possible and then took the girls and Goat Dog on a walk to a playground right around the end of the property. This campground has about two things going for it, the park next to it and the washer/bathroom situation. Keith often hooks us up ahead of time but here we would just be blocking the road so we had to do it quickly after the walk. Disenchanted by this squished park, we are looking forward to some new ones coming up.
We are headed to a one-nighter KOA in Raton today. We have a shorter drive at 233 miles and are finding our Armchair Expert Podcast with Kathleen Belew particularly fascinating. As the terrain changes from Mountains to Mesas closer to New Mexico we passed a coal train and drove through the landscape of the kind of train dioramas my Uncle Chuck used to have (still has?) in his basement—if I remember correctly. It was beautiful and as always the car pictures don’t do it justice.
Raton, New Mexico is a small town with the Save Discount Grocery and a Dollar Store the last standing in their strip mall across from the KOA. After we got settled and discovered the playground at the KOA, I drove over to stock up before we get even more rural tomorrow. Our one-nighter in Raton involved playground visits, dog walks, coloring, grocery, and dollar store visits—where we got carpet runners for the camper and the rest of Nonni’s pesto pasta with salad for dinner.
