There was a big emphasis on wind farms during our drive in the last part of Kansas into Colorado. Anna would often let us know which side of the road they were on and when they were especially close to the car she would yell, “Woah! That’s a big one!” every time. She asked how they worked and would let us know which ones were broken. Both girls enjoyed videoing them on their tablets.
We went through another time change before arriving in the small town of Seibert, CO at Shady Grove Campground, so we were earlier than we thought we would be, and the door said, “Be back in an hour. Park Yourself.” Our reservation email didn’t have a campsite number, so we just picked a site with a tree and set it up. We met another couple also waiting to see the outcome of their fate. In the end, we were able to stay in our spot. We did two loads of laundry and met a huge dog named hashtag before heading out on our adventure to the playground a blog away. Seibert feels kind of like a ghost town, we saw one woman washing something in her yard and three teenage boys giggling through the streets but other than that this town of population 200 was quiet. There is something about the energy in a town this small…like stillness in your body. Shady Grove might be my favorite campsite so far. It was small, so we were right next to the laundry and bathrooms and had a dog park right across the dirt road/street.
This morning, Keith and I were up at 5 am (mostly because of the time change but partly because I think the tree we picked had baby birds that were only subdued after mama fed them. Keith said they were so loud it felt like they were in our trailer. We were ready to go early. I ran out of milk for my coffee, so I asked the girls to run to the office and see if they had any cream and they brought back a cup full of 3 different kinds. They said the candy that was on display in the office was free and once asking permission they came back with pockets full. I love when the campsite is small like this so the girls can really do things by themselves without making me feel worried. They also have a walkie-talkie they check in on constantly…cuz fun!
Today we are on our final leg before a much-needed rest. We needed to re-up on food, so we made a Wal-Mart pick-up order in Colorado Springs—what a beautiful view of the mountains! Since we had the trailer, I stood with a shopping cart in the pick-up parking and the guy delivering my groceries didn’t seem surprised at all! He said someone does this about every 3rd day. Ha! Now we are driving through the mountains—what a shift from I-70. Next Stop: Lakeview Gunnison Campground in Almont, CO (it’s about an hour outside Gunnison on Taylor Lake Reservoir).
Up here in the mountains, it is hard to upload/download photos because we don’t have the best service. So, you can visit this link for a selection of photos from this day: https://photos.app.goo.gl/hPL4XRdshBNVwCjaA (Let me know if it doesn’t work).
Note: The girls fighting began to reduce on the 4th day and all the kids are playing nicely together.
