When driving to Missouri we realized a wonderful shift in temperature. Nashville’s 93 degrees was decreased by 13 and by the time we stopped for gas halfway it was a high of 80, and that felt cold. We stopped for gas again before we landed at Sundermeier RV Park, and picked up some bleach—we keep our dishwashing sponge in a Tupperware of bleach and water to keep it bacteria-free during our trip. It was sunny but 80 when we landed and after setting up at the urban RV park we headed out on an adventure in the direction the office had recommended.
Right outside the park, we found bike trails, a playground, and hiking trails along the Missouri River. I always appreciate a trail on the river. We took a short hike and landed at the playground which had several spiraling rides we labeled vomitoriums. Anna ran after fairies (fluffy tuffs blowing around from the trees), we saw a snake swimming in the river, and a snapping turtle who couldn’t fit his head inside his shell (was he overweight?).
After heading back to the campsite, Elsa spilled our Berky (our water filtration container) all over Willow and her bed and basically flooded the camper…chaos ensued. It was my fault really because it was missing its gripping circle on the bottom. At least our floor is very clean now. I think laundry needs to be done soon.
At dinner (hot dogs and salad), we watched three rabbits run around the campground. They chased each other, hid, and frolicked just like Peter Rabbit and his companions. After dinner, the girls played: puzzles, chalk, road bikes, and washed/painted their Squiggles (fuzzy toys you wash and color), until we met Nonni (14) and Ruby (6)—who’da thought—two very sweet girls they played with for an hour or so before showering and getting ready for bed. If you happen to be in the Greater Illinois/Missouri Area, you might find them at a Carnival Fair in the area.
Today we have our longest day of driving with 369 miles so we tried to get out on the road as early as possible which turned out to be 8:30 am. Next Stop: Chapman Creek RV Park in Chapman, KS!
Note: I added a map of our journey in the right sidebar!
Note: This write-up omits the now 575* fights that have happened between the girls since we left. *This rising tally could be hyperbolic but continues to feel true.
As always: Make sure you wait for the photos and captions to load below!
