Headed to Florida…finally! After several Covid-related decisions and detours to our initial plans we were packing up early to get out quickly but the day had other plans for us. We were out of our spot by 9:30 am and heading to the dump station. Luckily, it rained while we were at the dump station so that made it super fun! <– sarcasm. The rain was off and on so I guess it could have been worse. We just really wanted to empty the trailer’s tanks and put Happy Camper (cleaner) in them because we knew we weren’t going to use them for at least a week. We ended up officially leaving around 11 am.
We tried to stop for gas at one of the closest gas stations but they were “pay inside” and that’s annoying (who knows exactly how much gas you need) so we left. Then I had already typed Starbucks into the GPS because I was out of coffee and knew that the trailer couldn’t go through the drive-thru but then the lobby was closed (good for them, but ugh! I’m still getting used to Covid again /insert cry emoji here/. So no Coffee for me today. We stopped for gas again and were finally on the road.
About 20 minutes later, we were “Welcomed to Florida” by a big sign on I-95 and from then on the girls asked, “are we there yet?” every 5-minutes in anticipation of seeing their relatives. I don’t think we even stopped again because the drive wasn’t too too long.
When arriving at Keith’s parents we were greeted by his parents with love and excitement. After cleaning out the fridge and pantry from the camper I went to visit with my parents (who I haven’t seen for a year and a half) for a little bit at their house as well. I haven’t had to navigate Covid around my family yet because we have been living in Ohio, but it is very strange to enter the house where you grew up in a mask and talk to your family in a mask. I’m not a fan, but we are just entering other people’s pods cautiously and respectfully and I’m so grateful to my family for being understanding of my pod’s anxieties as well. Florida is another animal down here—especially with unvaccinated kids.
I bet there were a lot of happy tears, especially from the grandparents!!!!!
WELCOME BACK!
