It threatened to rain today, so we started a marathon Golf card game until Leona got bored and then walked to the big playground and Wildlife Lookout Tower. We saw a gopher tortoise along the way! I thought it was a statue because it hadn’t moved since my morning walk with Goat Dog and we realized it was real when it scurried quickly into its hole. When we got back we baked some brownies from a box in the convection microwave (I put the instructions on the fridge from last time so it was much easier/faster to begin/pre-heat). They came out great! Then we went on the Nature Trail because we were inspired by our short walk to go a little further and it was lovely…hot…and buggy. 🙂
Morning Golf game.
Short walk to the playground and Observation Tower: We all went up the *tower* (a pretty strong word for this elevated platform that was not really high enough to see over the trees to the lake). The tower was also covered in netting to keep the bugs out but then had a huge hole in the front to see out of—go figure; Anna and Keith went to leave to go to the playground and Elsa and I stayed to observe until we got bit by a bug and left…quickly. On our way back we saw this tortoise!
Brownies & a pooped Goat Dog (walks seem to make her sleepy down south more)
The Nature Trail: We went on the short River Trail and then headed back to the Nature Trail. We learned that this area grew on piles of discarded sea shells and oyster shells the Native Americans used to create in this area. We would cross bridges that would protect the piles so we could see them. We also saw a tortoise shell (Elsa made sure I knew that the Gopher tortoises were tortoises because they like only land and turtles like—good thing she is helping me learn!)
This is how Keith takes a shower in a public camp bathroom during Covid. <3
