Yesterday we did a little housekeeping before heading down to the lake. There was fishing, sandcastle building, paddle boarding, and going to the tackle shop to pick up some worms. I also did some good sitting. We also were able to borrow a paddle to make up for the one we lost the day before. While at the bait shop, we saw a flyer for a local firehouse fundraiser with beer, cider, BBQ, and live music. Having just arrived, our family stayed at the lake a little while and the Jensons headed over to the party.
We did some more of the above until the sky began to be grey on all sides of the mountain and the wind picked up tremendously. Elsa went out on a paddle board by herself and got blown halfway across the lake and couldn’t get back because the wind was too strong. So, Keith jumped at the task to save her. He borrowed a kayak from the family next to us and made a beeline for his little girl stranded in the water. He couldn’t right her and even using a two-sided paddle he couldn’t help her get back on the water because of the wind. So, they landed a good half a mile down the beach and Goat dog, Anna, and I walked over to pick up the board and paddle and help her back while Keith paddled the rest of the way back to our friendly neighbor. Elsa said it was scary and she seemed a little shook. But they played in the sand a little bit more and ate some lunch before we packed up and headed to meet the Jenson’s at the party.
The shindig was so cute. They had free beer, cider, ice cream, hats, rock painting, and the biggest hunk of BBQ I’ve ever seen (I think it was literally a whole cow they were slicing). Beautiful flowers on the tables (someone handed me some to take home), yard games, and a raffle. When it started to rain, we headed back to camp for a rest and then headed over to the Jenson’s for board games out of the rain. They had Yahtzee until the sun came out and they made delicious spicy/sweet chili and Caesar salad to share with us before the kids asked for smores around the fire in bike rides up and down the hill in front of the mountain.
