We visited Crusted Butte today. Yes, Keith and I made a lot of fun of this name. We had a bet that if I found a shirt that said, “Crusty Butt” on it that he would buy it for me and I would have to wear it in this ritzy town.
Crusted Butte is about an hour north through the mountains from our campsite. On the way up we stopped at the Taylor River to fish and walk on the rocks with the Jensons. We walked a little along the edge, it’s so ridiculously beautiful. The rock formations change as you walk for a few minutes and the rapids are constant on this river.
On the ride to and from we switched a kid—one of our kids was in their car and one of theirs in ours. This reduced fighting on in our car by almost 100%.
In Crusted Butte we stopped at the school playground before walking through the small tourist town. We had lunch at The Secret Stash (Pizza & Wings—excellent but tourist prices). We visited a couple of toy stores and candy stores…Elsa and I enjoyed a truffle (her birthday cake/me Cappuccino) for $4.25 each. On the way back to the car we walked along ChalkWalk sponsored by the local Art Center where the town had come out to compete in chalk drawings on the sidewalk. Who won? We’ll probably never know, but I would pick this cool pink alien.
It began raining on the way back so after a rest, we visited the Jensons camper and just hung out inside before heading back for an early night. The sky cleared a little before we headed back and we saw the most vibrant rainbow we had seen, ever. These early nights happen to be 9 pm bedtimes for the girls still when the sun has set but the sky is still light.
Note: Most of these posts are at least a day off if not more because of the service and friend time. I will try to back date them so they say the date of the day after we did the thing.
