Keith asked in South Dakota on day 5 or so, “When do you think we won’t be saying “COWS!” or “HORSES!” or “DEER!” or “BUTTERFLY!” when we see these things as we drive?” It’s day 38 and we are still saying these things and every time, everyone looks and says, “Where!” in excitement…so maybe never? Or maybe when they are pre-teen? Regardless, we haven’t hit that moment yet.
Pretty long drive today and started somewhat late…just before 11 am. The dump station was especially fun as we knew we were going to an Electric only site and wanted to make sure we were empty.
At Pomme de Terre we had Electric and Water and thought since you have to watch the grey tank intensely and pour water outside anyway (if you don’t want to head to the dump station in the middle of a visit) then why have water at all. So, at Wappapello we are trying just Electric. We’ll see!! *insert cringe face here*
We stopped for gas about 10 miles down the road and got a lot of road snacks. It was a beautiful hilly drive with farms and Amish and I was able to get caught up because we had service the whole time (who would have thought)!
Things we saw:
- Keith took a shower in the solo showers
- Saw old silos with trees growing out of them
- Saw horses and cows
- Saw hills and Amish houses—and signs that said “Share the Road” with a horse and buggy picture underneath
- Hit a butterfly on the windshield—traumatic for all
- Stopped for gas and watched this old man with a foot long beard jamming out in his blue old truck to heavy metal in a field next to the gas station
- Arrived at Ridge Campground in Wappapello State Park
- Keith saw a deer on his drive to the corner store
- Brushed our teeth outside
- Searched for potable water
- Spoke with our neighbor who knew more about this campground telling us there were ticks
- Found potable water
- Discussed ways of setting up with potable v.s. filtered potable water Went to bed early and tried to bargain with the girls to go to sleep…it half worked.
