Happy Birthday, Anna! Someone had a birthday today and we filled the camper with balloons and hung the two banners we brought from home. I went out early to go shopping and got the requested breakfast (donuts) and a birthday cake. I had to go to two stores because Safeway didn’t have a bakery, so I ended up at City Market in Gunnison, but I found one with a rainbow. We were going to make one but since we were here with Kim I didn’t want to stress about it so the girls decorated the already decorated cake with candy and princesses and happiness ensued. Leona opened a few gifts (2 Spirit horses and riders and 2 glittery unicorn necklaces with BFF specifically to share one with Ruby). She seemed delighted (Phew!).
Kim and family showed up at our campsite around 10:30 am and the girls showed them the donkeys and goats before headed to the huge playground in Gunnison. The parents even got in on the fun at this massive beast!
We were lucky to find some seating for 8 right next to the big open window at the High Alpine Brewery in downtown Gunnison. They had some decent pizzas and beers and a whiskey, but it took forever to get them. After picking up some bathing suits and biking for a second we headed to the Gunnison River Whiterafting Park and hung out on the shore of the river where Ryan taught Elsa to fish, we waded through the rushing water, and the kids swam. Goat Dog hung out too.
Heading back to our campsite the kids rode bikes for a little bit and we had cake and rainbow sherbet before Kim and family headed back—what a lovely visit.
Things we did:
- Blew up balloons
- Bought a birthday cake
- Ate donuts
- Ate candy and decorated the cake
- Rode bikes with friends, saw the donkeys, goats, and game room
- Played on the huge Gunnison Playground—3 huge swirly slides, a climbing wall, a 4 person sea saw, and some sort of swirly thing that looked like nothing but everyone was trying it
- Went to the brewery! Beers and pizza all around (the girls had apple juice) and spilled their waters on their dresses–good times.
- Hung out on the Gunnison River—watched rafters and people going down the rapids
- Sung Happy Birthday to Anna! I had to keep lighting the candles because the wind was blowing pretty hard.
- Had cake and sherbet—the cake was pretty intensely sugary (I guess we just hadn’t had this kind of cake in a while because no one liked it)
- Did laundry in the rain
- The girls played with the Spirit/Lucky and Chickelinda/Pru dolls they got for about 3 hours
- Keith and I looked over our next destination again in dismay as we are dry camping =0 and it’s going to be HOT. Wish us luck!!
- The girls slept together tonight because it was the birthday girl’s request.
