We left Moran, WY about 10 am. Passed beautiful mountains and landscapes through the Wind River Range such as the Bridger-Teton National Forest, the Shoshon National Forest, Wind River Indian Reservation, and many other ranges all through WY. We took the Chief Washakie Trail as we drove through Wyoming. Washakie was the head of the Easter Shoshone and advocated, compromised, and negotiated on behalf of his people in Wyoming in the late 1800s.
Not a lot of service out here and not a lot of people…but beautiful colorful landscapes. The girls are doing great in the car especially since all our technology is failing. Their tablets don’t work all the time and our car DVD player went caput a while ago (I think it Great Falls, SD). Not a lot of service available for DVD players anymore. Thank goodness for journaling, our new markers, and the little Friends Lego playsets that Elena gave them before we left.
Things we did:
- Turned the heat on in the tailer in the night—it got down to 58
- Worked out in what felt colder than 60 degrees this morning
- Packed lunches and the trailer up to head out
- Past the Continental Divide about 6 times today
- Got gas in Lander, WY
- Followed our route on the Atlas
- Looked up what the tall fences that were offset on the road were: Snow Fences (some made of trees/some wood—all designed to keep the snow from drifting across the roads and saving lives! Who knew!
- Arrived in Rawlins around 3:30 pm
- The splash pad at the campground was closed due to drought but the playground was visible from our campsite which was a big win. The girls played there for about 4 hours.
- Had BLM’s (Turkey Bacon, Lettuce, and Mayo) sandwiches—Our outside grill needs a clean and Turkey Bacon is easier to make in the trailer on the stove because it’s precooked and doesn’t splatter all over the place like actual bacon.
- Took showers in real showers
- Hosed the girls off after their play session before bedtime (we’ve been reading the “The Princess Fairies” series
As always: Make sure you wait for the photos and captions to load below! If the photos are too small and you want to zoom in don’t forget you can Cmd+/- on a Mac or Cntl+/- on a PC to zoom in/out your browser!
Even overnight stays can be an adventure with a decent playground. No motel can offer this benefit. Dinner sounds yummy and EASY!
It was nice and the turkey bacon was good and I think Keith is a convert 🙂
within reason I mean…
Curious flat top/plateau mountain in the landscape…so glad Lego Friends provided joy in the car. E still plays daily with Legos.
