After a workout, I caught up on our travelogue (I like that name!) and we grabbed some pancakes when the girls arose. We got out of Great Falls around 10 am and headed out on 15 toward Glacier! About a half a mile down the road Keith thought our trailer had a flat tire…but it didn’t! Phew, we didn’t need another snaffoo after the locked-out incident yesterday. The girls met a friend while Keith and I hooked up/packed up and played with her for about 2 hours, so it made hook up a lot less distracted. Ava gave them a LOL doll each and they have played with them non-stop since we left, in the car, and slept with them.
As we got closer to Glacier the mountains that were a misty dreamscape in the distance turned into an up-close reality. There is roadwork right outside the entrance to West Glacier so it takes a little longer to get in. We tried out our entry and went to the visitor center for our Junior Ranger booklets. The rangers said with our timed-entry pass it will be no problem getting in and out of the park. It took longer to get out of the park because of the road work (1 lane at a time) situation, but it wasn’t too bad.
After getting back to the campground we of course had to visit the pool which is where we began to see how the Koa resort held up to its name. Umbrellas and fountains at the pool, ice cream shop, general store, events every night, and a outdoor dining hall are some of the amenities of this resort. It is truly a more glamping experience. We don’t need all these things but for this price we are going to take advantage of as much as possible. The mountains all around the campground really also make this place special.
Things we did:
- Free pancakes!
- Stopped because we thought we had a flat tire (we didn’t…phew!)
- While packing up the girls made a friend and played the whole time with Ava. Ava gave them two LOL dolls when we left…very sweet.
- Both girls fell asleep in the car in the first 15-mins – YES!
- Drove through fields, farms, and rocky terrane Montana
- Saw bright green grasses that turned out to be planted fields of yellow flowers…after some googling they turned out to be Canola (a rotational crop that helps with bugs and makes oil – bonus!)
- Drove through Blackfeet Indian Reservation
- Entered Glacier and saw rivers, bridges, and trains move across the mountains just like my Uncle Chuck (used to?) have in the basement.
- Arrived at West Glacier KOA
- Tried out our 7-day timed-entry pass and entered West Glacier
- Went to the Apgar Visitor Center and got Junior Ranger booklets and advice on kid hikes
- Went swimming
- Had ice cream
- Met a couple from California with two kids (3 & 6) that the girls played with to burn off the ice cream till 9 pm while their parents gave us some tips and tricks of the trade

sorry to hear about carsick sweetie pie. do you have access to any ginger?
you may have mentioned this and I missed it but what does KOA stand for? Looks like a really nice camping adventure, more Babs-style. haha
love to all, xo
KOA is Kampgrounds of America (kind of silly I know). I thought these were like the bad campgrounds before we started but apparently they are more like the resort ones. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
PS my dad (engineer and car packer extraordinaire) would’ve been VERY PROUD of your trunk.
yay!
