We didn’t feel like doing too much today and needed to do laundry and stop at the Walmart. So we took a 10 minute drive to Great Springs State Park after the KOA’s free pancakes (“these don’t taste like ours”), fed some fish, stopped at an overlook, and headed for lunch. The lady at Ford’s Drive-In was running around like a chicken with her head cut off to each car parked there, but it was fun and good. We ate at a picnic table by the river and then headed back. I went to Walmart while Keith did laundry and then we all went to the pool. I jammed my finger pretty good on one of the slides (it’s fine) but a good time was had by all.
When we all got back to the camper ready to make some dinner, I locked us all out. Luckily, all of us including Goat Dog, our phones, and Keith’s wallet were with us. Keith called AAA and after a few calls to a locksmith, we were out of trouble. Special thanks to our neighbors to tried to come up with solutions, helped hold our awning so it didn’t get broken in the wind (we couldn’t bring it in because the electric button is on the inside of the camper). While waiting for the locksmith I took the girls to get ice cream. They did pretty well and so did we. No panicking happened.
Things we did:
- Free pancakes!
- Great Springs State Park: Visited the fish hatchery where the girls fed the rainbow and albino trout, saw a pregnant trout, went on a short hike, and visited the Rainbow Falls/Dam Overlook
Saw beautiful clear fresh springs, 52 degrees, and no swimming allowed - Drove to Ford’s Drive-In (a beat-up fast-food restaurant that has been around for 60 years and got burgers, fries, and shakes). It was delicious; I had been craving a hamburger for a few days! The girls didn’t want to eat in the car, so we took our food to a picnic table by the Missouri River (the river is big!)
- Did Laundry
- Went to Walmart (it was right next to the KOA and enormous. It even had a hair salon inside!)
- Swam and went down slides at the KOA water playground
- Tara jammed her finger on the slide (Keep your hands in!)
- Locked ourselves out of the camper (it happens to everyone…so they say)
- Had Huckleberry Wilcoxson’s ice-cream (and moose tracks), but apparently, huckleberries are a Montana thing
- Took the train 2x
- Went on the “nature walk” around the campground and fed goats and chickens saw a bunny, raspberries, and cows

I’m really enjoying your trip! What an adventure for all of you! Elsa and Anna are real troopers.
Yay! So glad!!! ❤️? They are doing so good.
You are also a trooper and so is Keith if he remained patient with the key lockout. 🙂
those raspberries are looking better than mine. But yesterdays sun (finally) has helped.
can you text me so that I can go back to previous dates to check comments? thank you. xo
